There are many questions about the USA's disappointing performance in the 2018 Winter Olympics. Can the team again win gold? The answer is no, but that's not the end of the world. The USA is a country that has had a lot of failures, especially in Olympic hockey. In the past, the national team has come close to medaling at the Olympics, but it has never been able to do it.

Angela Ruggiero

Angela Ruggiero was 15 years old when she began playing hockey with Team USA. In 1998, she was the youngest participant of the U.S. Olympic Women’s Ice Hockey Team. This team went on to win gold at Nagano, Japan. She continued to play for Team USA, including playing on the 2002 and 2010 Olympic Teams.

Herb Brooks

Herb Brooks, born August 5, 1937. Brooks was raised in a modest St. Paul duplex. Brooks was a high school coach who led his team to the Minnesota state championship. Brooks was selected to play college hockey under the legendary coach John Mariucci at the University of Minnesota. He earned 45 points in the 1957-58 seasons. He was also a member of several U.S. National team during the 1960s, 1970s.

Miracle on Ice

The 1980 Olympic Men’s National Hockey teams defeated the Soviet Union and won the gold medal. They were awarded the title, "Miracle on Ice". This incredible feat is a significant piece of Cold War and sports history.


Herb Brooks' scheme to make players hate him

Herb Brooks was a hockey coach who lived and worked in Davos in Switzerland. He will be the New York Rangers' coach in March. Jim Craig, a Boston Bruins player, grew up in the same house with Herb. Craig was paid $35,000 by Coca-Cola to appear in a Coca-Cola advertisement while he was playing for the Boston Bruins. Whether Brooks' plan to get players to hate him was effective or not is another question.

Soviet hockey team's scrappy style

There were many left-handed players in the Soviet hockey team. Their dominant right handed was taught, and they were forced to use their weaker hand. They couldn't afford to fetishize their handedness so they created ways to compensate.

Brian O'Neill

Brian O'Neill in the United States is a professional forward in ice hockey. He is currently with EV Zug of National League. He has been the USA National Hockey Team's representative on five occasions.
